United Living and Two Rivers Housing support Earlybirds playgroup
United Living and Two Rivers Housing have teamed up to help a local playgroup with a recent refurbishment.
Together, they donated and fitted a brand new kitchen at the Earlybirds Playgroup at St White’s Primary School in Cinderford, providing both a teaching facility for the children and a meeting place for the wider community.
On Friday 11th November, MP for the Forest of Dean, Mark Harper, helped staff, parents and children to celebrate the official opening of their refurbished centre.
Two Rivers Housing’s Head of Asset Management, Luke Beard, saw the playgroup committee’s plea for help with a new kitchen and contacted United Living – which carries out kitchen and bathroom improvements on behalf of the not-for-profit organisation – to see if they could work together to help the playgroup.
Nic Carn, United Living Site Manager commented: “I went along with Jenny Lamb, a Surveyor from Two Rivers, to see what we could do. We noted the potential to use recycled kitchen units and worktops that have been held in stock as replacement parts or from last-minute design changes that Two Rivers could donate and we could fit. We drew up some plans and were really pleased to be able to make a difference and help out.”
Jenny Lamb from Two Rivers Housing said: “We have a strong focus on supporting the communities where our tenants live and this was a great opportunity to work with United Living to improve the facilities that will help the children and the wider community.”
Liz Probert, Manager for Earlybirds, added: “We are very grateful to Two Rivers Housing who donated the kitchen units and United Living who fitted them and did all the tiling. The local authority identified a need for places for two-year-olds in this area, so we can now provide good facilities for the much-needed spaces.”
Mark Harper also commented: “I was impressed with the support that Two Rivers Housing have given to help with the refurbishment. This is a good example of the work they do in supporting community groups across my constituency.”
